After working seven and a half years for other architectural firms, obtaining experience not only in design but all phases of architecture, he established his own architectural firm with dedication to providing a high standard of design, accuracy of plans and specifications, attention to details, cost control, and a "personalized" architectural service.
While his office was still in Michigan and he was designing two projects in California, he saw California as a state with tremendous growth and need for his architectural skills. He moved his office to Santa Cruz in 1982.
His early commitment to architecture in general was expanded to include construction management when appropriate. The extent of this complete commitment led him to be the field superintendent for three months each for two projects, actually working side by side with the men on the site.
He and his wife have four children and nine grandchildren. Alyce is an artist creating porcelain sculpture. Son Robert has an architectural degree and a Master of Theology and is a contractor in Michigan. Son Bill has a master's degree in architecture and has an architectural office in Ontario CA, Son Andy has a master's degree in architecture also and has an architectural office in Atlanta, Georgia. Daughter Connie has a degree in interior architecture from the University of California, Davis and is a teacher in Stockton, CA.
